Overview

Qatari shipyard and offshore fabrication company strengthens engineering delivery and streamlines 3D modelling, clash detection, and project rollouts.

Established in 2007, Nakilat – Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (N-KOM) is a joint-venture between Nakilat, the world’s leading transporter of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and Keppel Offshore & Marine, the global leader in ship repair, ship conversion & construction of offshore drilling rigs.

“Our team has used various 3D modelling software packages, but we find Cadmatic user-friendly in modelling, clash identification and 3D walkthrough.” He also adds that “N-KOM has successfully used the Cadmatic software to complete a number of BWTS upgrades and cooler replacements for LNG carriers, cargo system piping for an FSO conversion, a fresh water-cooling system upgrade and an air lubrication system layout study to meet EEXI regulations.”

Engineering Manager

N-KOM’s capacity, state-of-the-art facilities, engineering, project management, safety and quality capabilities enables them to conduct of a wide range of marine and rig repairs, upgrades, maintenance and conversion projects as well as fabrication and industrial engineering jobs.

Driven by their passion and commitment to provide enhanced value-added solutions to meet their clients’ operational requirements and environmental regulatory standards, N-KOM acquired Cadmatic software in December 2021. This enabled N-KOM to provide value-added turnkey engineering solutions for their marine and offshore projects.

Hybrid training model a success: online self-learning & interactive training

N-KOM’s Cadmatic training was coordinated by Sudhakaran Subbarayan from the Cadmatic Academy. The hybrid training model comprised a blend of self-learning online courses augmented by interactive online sessions.

“The fact that participants can access on-line self-learning materials before actual interactive courses significantly reduces the amount of time we need for training. It also gives our customers more flexibility as they don’t have to pull designers from project work for long periods at a time,” Sudhakaran explains.

Anwar acknowledges that “the training was well organized. Sudhakaran was able to resolve all technical clarifications raised by the N-KOM team. This boosted our confidence and enabled the successful adoption of Cadmatic software.”
