JAHI selects Cadmatic to build in-house engineering capabilities

Published on 30th of October, 2026

Joong-Ang Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (JAHI), a builder of small and medium-sized vessels in Yeongam, South Korea, has selected Cadmatic software to support its move from an outsourcing-led design model to its own engineering organization. This process has started with Cadmatic Hull, Cadmatic Outfitting and Cadmatic Electrical.

JAHI is based in the Daebul Industrial Complex in South Jeolla Province. It builds electric-powered vessels, LNG-powered and bunkering vessels, tugboats and vehicle ferries, and runs its own research institute. Environmentally friendly vessels and sustainable maritime services are a central part of its growth plans.

Bringing design in-house allows JAHI to keep project knowledge and data as company assets, connect design and production more closely, and use what it learns on each project to improve the quality and productivity of the next vessel. The company aims to compete with much larger yards on specialized expertise in small and medium-sized vessels and on flexible project execution, and to become a shipbuilder trusted by domestic and international customers.

Training starts with the core design disciplines

JAHI will use Cadmatic Hull, Cadmatic Outfitting and Cadmatic Electrical, together with information management software Cadmatic eShare. The rollout is phased. Teams begin with basic training and hands-on practice, then apply the software in their day-to-day design work. As they gain experience, JAHI’s engineers will build skills in their own discipline and learn to share and use engineering information across disciplines.

Cadmatic and JAHI have agreed on shared objectives. These are independent design capability at JAHI, a stable digital engineering environment, higher productivity, and better management and use of engineering data.

Byung Suk Lee, CEO of JAHI, said: “Building our own engineering capabilities is an important step in JAHI’s long-term growth. By bringing more design knowledge and experience in-house, we aim to strengthen our engineering competitiveness, connect design and production more closely, and continuously improve through each project. We expect Cadmatic to be an important partner in helping us build these capabilities step by step.”

Cadmatic’s team in Korea will support JAHI, working with Cadmatic specialists from other regions to share shipbuilding expertise and practical experience as the new engineering organization grows.

Seongman Yu, Head of Cadmatic Korea, said: “We are very pleased to welcome JAHI to the Cadmatic community. JAHI has a clear ambition to strengthen its own engineering capabilities and build a solid foundation for future growth. Our role is not simply to provide software, but to support JAHI in developing practical engineering capabilities that can be applied to real projects. We look forward to working closely with JAHI and supporting this journey as a long-term partner.”

Cadmatic sees the program as the start of a long-term collaboration with JAHI.
