How did Heta get a kickstart for her career? – From Trainee to Software Engineer
What does a great first job in tech look like? For Heta Puro, it meant contributing to real development work from day one, a chance to learn by doing, and becoming a trusted part of the team. After joining Cadmatic as a summer trainee, she now works full-time as a Software Engineer. She began with CADMATIC Electrical, a tool for electrical design in industrial projects, and at the time of our interview, was transitioning to the CADMATIC Wave team, our newest software product. In this blog, you’ll learn how Heta found her way here, the kinds of problems she’s working on, what she’s learned so far, and why she sees Cadmatic as the right place to grow as a developer.

Finding her way to Cadmatic
When Heta Puro was completing her IT engineering degree in 2024, she began looking for a workplace where she could grow professionally and gain real experience in software development.
“I first got to know more of Cadmatic at a student event on my campus. I already had heard positive things about the company, as I knew many students had ended up working there. Cadmatic stood out because I knew people had stayed there for a long time, and that told me something about the company culture”, she says.
She applied to the company’s summer trainee program and was selected to join the team working on CADMATIC Electrical. Throughout the summer, she worked on real development tasks like fixing bugs, improving UI components, and building internal tools.
“I didn’t feel like I was just observing from the sidelines. I got to work on real things and felt like I was trusted from the beginning. For the first time, I felt like I was an integral part of the development team, not just a summer trainee or a student. I was a colleague to others”, she says.

After her traineeship, Heta transitioned into a new life stage in her personal life, as she became a mom. While on parental leave, she got a call from her team lead who offered her a job at Cadmatic. “They offered a position as a Software Developer Trainee for the summer, and I could work part-time, to transition from my parental leave and finish my studies. It was important to me that my employer understood my situation and I felt fully supported”, Heta says.
In September 2025, she transitioned into a full-time Software Engineer role.
What she’s working on – and what she’s learning
After working in the CADMATIC Electrical team and developing internal tools and UI improvements, Heta recently transitioned to a new role in CADMATIC Wave team, a product process and data management solution designed to tackle shipbuilding industry-specific issues. The move opened up a chance to explore a completely different product area and gain experience in a more international team setup.
“In CADMATIC Electrical, I had the chance to learn a lot about how large software products are structured and maintained. Now, with Wave, I get to learn how to build on that and see a different approach to product development. It’s exciting to be part of something that’s still growing”, she says.
She’s especially looking forward to learning more about designing features from the ground up, contributing to new areas of functionality, and deepening her understanding of project-based workflows in industrial domains.
During her time in CADMATIC Electrical, one of the biggest learning experiences came from working with an older, complex codebase, something many developers encounter early in their careers.
“It can feel intimidating at first, but I started to see it as a valuable part of my learning. It teaches you to read code carefully, to understand how others think, and to solve problems that aren’t always straightforward,” she says.

Why Cadmatic feels like the right place to grow
For Heta, one of the most valuable aspects of her journey so far has been how Cadmatic creates space for early-career professionals to grow into their expertise, with real responsibility, approachable colleagues, and continuous learning.
“There hasn’t been pressure to already know everything. People here are really understanding, and I’ve always felt comfortable asking questions. You get help when you need it, and at the same time, you’re trusted to take ownership”, she says.

What has made the biggest difference in her development is learning how to be a software developer in a real-world setting: working on complex products, contributing to production code, and learning from experienced peers who are open to mentoring.
With her move to a new team, she’s also getting her first taste of working in a fully international product team. For someone like Heta, starting in their tech career, it’s a chance to grow fast, with perspective.
3 reasons why Cadmatic is the right place for Heta right now:
#1 A work culture that supports learning and growth without pressure to be “ready” from day one.
“I think Cadmatic offers a really good foundation for starting your career. You get to learn so much. There’s a real investment in learning and development, and the opportunities are there, if you want to take them.”
#2 Opportunities to switch teams and deepen expertise through new technical challenges
“I’m really excited about this new challenge with the team switch from CADMATIC Electrical to CADMATIC Wave. I get to do something different. At first, I thought I just wanted to keep doing what I already knew, but now I am quite excited. I get to see how another team works and learn from that.”
#3 A real tech role from the start, contributing to core products, learning from peers, and building confidence as a developer
“The biggest learning for me has been understanding how software development actually works in a real company. Even if you do some industry projects in school, it’s never at the same scale. Now I really see what professional development is like, and I feel this is the perfect place for me to grow professionally.”
So, if you’re a junior developer wondering what kind of environment will actually support your growth, Heta’s story shows what that can look like!
