Scaling from one expert to a multi-project team
From a solo engineering consultancy to a trusted digital enabler for Sweden’s largest industrial plants, NIER’s growth story shows what’s possible when ambition meets the right tools.
With Cadmatic’s design applications and information management solutions at the core, NIER delivers complex, multi–disciplinary projects with control, clarity, and speed to clients like LKAB Minerals. Their five-person team runs some of the region’s largest 3D models, supporting both digital transformation and daily execution at scale.
Bigger projects and growing expectations
As consultant, Nicklas Eriksson, Founder and Managing Director at NIER AB, saw the pain points of traditional plant design firsthand. Too many disconnected tools. Too many workarounds. Too much wasted time. When he started his own consultancy NIER, the goal was clear: offer plant owners an efficient, data-driven alternative.
What started as a solo consulting business quickly expanded: He started taking on new clients and bigger projects that went far beyond piping design to meet more complex demands emerging in the process industry.
Nicklas adds, “We’re not just designers – we implement and run the entire Cadmatic environment for our customers. That includes admin, consulting, and training.”
Owner Operators like LKAB wanted more than drawings; they wanted digital control, collaboration at scale, and a system they could own. NIER needed a solution that could keep up.

Design, data, decisions – all in sync
NIER’s ability to scale without friction comes down to how Cadmatic tools work together and enabling work sharing. This is indispensable when collaborating between engineering firms and disciplines to keep everyone aligned in one design environment, while the data ownership stays with the owner and operator. The combination of CADMATIC 3D Plant Design and P&ID ensures diagrams and 3D layouts stay in sync, reducing handover gaps and minimizing rework.
“Nothing can beat Cadmatic on the market, when you combine CADMATIC 3D Plant Design, P&ID, and eShare with its built-in work sharing,” says Nicklas.
CADMATIC eShare extends clarity to the wider project network, offering easy access to the model so every stakeholder, from site managers to subcontractors, is always working with the latest information. Underpinning it all, library and specification management ensures that only approved components are used, helping NIER maintain quality and consistency across every project.
“We invested 150 hours of admin work upfront to avoid 1,000 hours of designer rework. That’s the power of setting it up right,” underscores Nicklas.
Together, these tools don’t just support project delivery but redefine what engineering services and consulting firms can offer their customers.
Whether supporting greenfield developments or updating brownfield sites, NIER uses Cadmatic to offer something rare: engineering precision with speed, and control with collaboration.
Lean team with large-scale impact
With just five engineers, NIER supports some of the largest digital plant environments in Sweden. Their admin-first approach means industrial plant projects don’t just get design – they get a living, powerful digital asset.
Results that speak:
- From 1 to 5 engineers in under a year, without added overheads.
- One admin setup saved 1,000+ hours of work.
- Management of 25+ km² design environments, among the largest in the region.
- Direct stakeholder access via eShare environments.
“Cadmatic enables us to grow without friction” emphasizes Nicklas, and continues, “our customers demand more visibility, more structure, and more control, and we’re already there.”
As more industrial plant owners and operators look to digitize their plants and take control of their design environments, NIER is ready. With Cadmatic as its foundation, the engineering and consulting firm isn’t just keeping pace, it’s leading the charge.
